Kokoda Track And Owen Stanley Ranges

Kokoda Track and Owen Stanley Ranges (On tentative list)

The Owen Stanley Range is stunning. From its peaks the views carry for miles upon miles in all directions.

Brigade Hill is a perfect example of this, with its views to the south showing the parellel East-West ridges.

The Kokoda Track varies in its grades. At times it providing accessible and scenic passage. A word of caution, as it can take you three to four metres vertically in in the space of 1.5m!

Between the mud, rubble and the superficial tree roots on 'The Wall' and the north side of Mt Bellamy Ridge ( descending into Templetons Crossing) demonstrate the sheer ascents and descents faced by troops and porters for both sides of the Kokoda Campaign.

Anyone with an interest in the history of the Pacific conflict, Australian History or hiking should consider the trek. Considered by some to be the world's most challenging path below the snowline, its a personal and physical challenge in some of the worlds most beautiful mountains.
