L'oeuvre architecturale d'Henry van de Velde by Caspar Dechmann
I am always taken by the buildings by Henry van der Velde: I visited several of them by chance: the magnificent museum Kröller-Möller, the buildings in Weimar and Gent. First it is very impressive the wide range from art nouveaux like some buildings in Brussels to the modern buildings like the Kröller-Möller and the Gent University. But while the early works are much clearer, more sculpted then the houses by some of his friends like Horta, the later buildings still seem more "alive", warmer, nicer to live in then the works by Corbusier and Gropius. I am looking forward to see more or his works but I believe it would be hard to choose which ones of his many still standing works would be the most significant beside the obvious, already included sites in Weimar. A true artist as one can also admire in his stunning furniture.
