I like the concept of World Heritage, and I like to travel, so combining these two is very enjoyable. However, I don't travel outside of Europe that often, so my ultimate goal would be to visit all WH sites in Europe.

My most impressive site: Rome and Grand Canyon

My proposal for a new site: Mount Vesuvius and Phlegreian Fields, Historic University Towns of Oxford and Cambridge, Windsor Castle, Death Valley National Park, Old Town of Hall in Tirol and Schwaz Silver Mines, Historic Centre of Innsbruck and Ambras Castle, Bavarian Royal Castles, Moon Landing Sites: Cape Canaveral/Kennedy Space Center and Houston/Johnson Space Center (Mission Control)

Aachen Cathedral

This is probably the most important WH site in Germany and the most significant religious building north of the Alps, and it is no wonder that it was the first …

Monticello by Els Slots

Monticello

To be in the Washington area and not to take the relatively short trip to Charlottesville, Virginia, is really to miss a great sight. Monticello is one of the most …

Edinburgh

OK, so I did not try the haggis (there have to be limits), but I still enjoyed Edinburgh a lot (maybe because I skipped the haggis?..). The new town from …

Reims by Els Slots

Reims (Inscribed)

Reims

Reims is one of the most important cities in French history, and if you are only slightly interested in this subject (maybe slightly confusing but very interesting), then this city …

Nancy by Els Slots

Nancy (Inscribed)

Nancy

Nancy doesn't really belong to France's world-class sights and cities, but it has atmosphere, charm, and culture nonetheless. By a curious twist of history, a former king of Poland came …

Strasbourg by Luis Filipe Gaspar

Strasbourg (Inscribed)

Strasbourg

Strasbourg is mostly famous for politics, being both the seat of the Council of Europe and of the European Parliament, but the city's history and culture are at least as …

Durham Castle and Cathedral

Like the other posters, I really enjoyed Durham. Even though I had arrived in the early morning on a night bus from London and had to wait several hours for …

Frontiers of the Roman Empire

After a long period of aggressive expansion, the time had to come for one Roman emperor to put a stop to it and say out loud that Rome was not …

City of Bath

I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed by Bath. The Roman Baths are very impressive, very well preserved, and definitely worth a visit despite the price, but the …

Mount Athos by Els Slots

Mount Athos

It seems that it hasn't become much easier to visit Mount Athos than it was decades ago, and if you happen to be female, it's evidently impossible. But there is …

Archaeological Site of Aigai by Argo

Archaeological Site of Aigai (Inscribed)

Archaeological Site of Aigai

There are few accessible sites associated with Alexander the Great, his father Philip II, and ancient Macedonia in general, but Vergina is one of them and a very interesting one …

Thessalonika by Els Slots

Thessalonika

Thessaloniki was a pleasant surprise for me. I hadn't thought much about it before, but it's really a very clean and modern metropolis with a nice view of the sea …

Westminster is one of those unmissable (and not to be missed) sites that you just stumble across when you come to London and that you can´t escape - you come …

Acropolis by Els Slots

Acropolis

Athens is an interesting city and much less dirty, crowded, and noisy than most people seem to believe, but its attractions are few and far between (great archaeological museum, though). …

Tower of London

It's certainly true that the entrance fee for the Tower is out of this planet (same for other London attractions like Buckingham Palace) and the lines are about a kilometer …

Maritime Greenwich

Greenwich is a site that truly deserves its listing on the WHS. Apart from being very easy to reach from central London, Greenwich's importance in the fields of science, navigation, …
