Spending the best part of a full day in Toledo, you can experience the cities rich history. Your visit may be enhanced by a little bit of History reading about the Reconquista and Spain during the Middle Ages.
Nueva de Bisagra Gate (main entrance)
Upon entering the city of Toledo, its like passing a threshold into Medieval Spain. For hours, I walked the old streets and appreciated the cities numerous historical treasures. Not long before sunset, I made my way to the Catedral Primada de Toledo. As one of the last visitors for the day, I appreciated the craftsmanship and solitude. As a former capital, Toledo has played an important role and key strategic target sought by Christians and Muslims during the Middle Ages.

These men were no strangers to Toledo:
- Miguel de Cervantes (Don Quixote is set in Castilla–La Mancha, in which Toledo is the capital)
- Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar (El Cid or El Campeador)
- El Greco (El Greco Museum is located in Toledo)
Whenever you read a bit about Toledo in the Middle Ages or during the Renaissance, you cannot escape these names. They all have some connection or familiarity with the Historic City of Toledo. Whether you search for the Miguel de Cervantes statue or visit the El Greco Museum, Toledo has a rich connection to Spanish History, Literature, and Art.
Since my time in Toledo was relatively short and quiet some time ago, I would love to return. I often view a desire to return to a WHS as one of the indicators of its OUV.
