I love exploring everything around me - thus, it is not surprising I am a scientist. The important aspect of doing good science is to travel...

All in all, I am traveling quite a lot, mostly around Europe. Since I like bustling cities and quiet historical towns as well as nature, the list of my visited sites is diverse.

My most impressive site: Prague, Assisi, Bauhaus, Primeval beech forests

My proposal for a new site: Ještěd transmitter, Lecce, Burren landscape, Sligo megalithic landscape, Carnac megalithic landscape, Tainan temples in Taiwan

Nice place which I visited two times only: some 20 years ago, when the site was overcrowded because of a festival and trades. For the second time in Summer 2020 …

The area around the mining town of Kutná Hora (Kuttenberg in German) has been important "hotspot" from at least 10th Century as documented by nice Romanesque churches in Malín (village …

I know Telč very well and since childhood I have visited it at least once a year. Surprisingly, I realized only recently that Telč is one of the best WHS …

Paseo del Prado and Buen Retiro

You are the first I dare to tell a secret to: I prefer Madrid to Barcelona! Therefore, I gave relatively very high rating to this Prado/Buen Retiro "double" site.

Plečnik's Ljubljana

I have already expressed my enthusiasm towards Plečnik´s designs in Ljubljana in my previous review. Now, one week before the ultimate verdict of the UNESCO committee (July 2021), I would …

Žatec – Landscape of Hops

I gave the second chance to Žatec and the landscape of Saaz hops in July 2021. After deferral in 2018, the state party of Czechia submitted the new nomination file …

Domus de Janas by Matejicek

Domus de Janas (Nominated)

Domus de Janas

This is quite interesting serial nomination of 35 pre-historic, pre-Nuraghic sites of Sardinia. Nevertheless, I was thinking intensively how to evaluate it in comparison to other archeological sites in Europe. …

Iron Trail with Erzberg and the old town of Steyr

I visited Erzberg mine and nearby town of Eisenerz, one component of this serial TWHS, by coincidence in 2009, and I had no feeling that I have seen something that …

The Royal Sites of Ireland (On tentative list)

The Royal Sites of Ireland

From this serial nomination, I visited only Rock of Cashel as most of other travelers did. In 2007, we went by car from Dublin via Glendalough (another TWHS) and Kilkenny …

Holy Trinity Column

It is easy and at the same time difficult for me to write a review about the Holy Trinity column in Olomouc. Others have already described the monument in detail, …

Cesky Krumlov

This is the Czech classic, thus, it is normally stuffed with masses of tourists, and not only tourists form abroad but also the local tourists, usually during popular canoeing on …

I did an afternoon trip to Žďár nad Sázavou in July 2020, and the reason was to go to Zelená Hora again. I visited the site many times, and I …

Velké Losiny is quite interesting village located in the broader region of Jeseníky Mountains, the highest mountains of Moravia. The important period for Velké Losiny is the late renaissance – …

The Spa at Luhacovice (On tentative list)

The Spa at Luhacovice

This must have been very frustrating for all supporters of Luhačovice inscription to WHS list as this spa town originally initiated the process but it has been eventually omitted from …

Kosice

This is very poor TWHS on the Slovak list. It is quite clear that the trick with the lenticular shape of the historical Košice is just a substitute to the …
