Definition
A yardang is a fluted aerodynamic feature formed by eolian erosion. In arid regions, layers of hard and soft rocks are aligned vertically. As winds blow, the soft rocks get eroded, while the hard rock formations remain. Some of the abrasion undercuts parts of the rocks, and these formations are called yardangs. (source)
