Libya ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on 13 October 1978. Its World Heritage focus is cultural—particularly Greek, Roman, and early Islamic ruins. Principal sites include Leptis Magna, Sabratha, Cyrene, and the desert oasis town of Ghadames.
