North Macedonia

3.08
North Macedonia ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention in April 1997, succeeding the former Yugoslavia’s accession. It has two inscribed sites: a mixed cultural-natural property—the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Ohrid region, featuring Europe’s oldest lake, medieval religious monuments, and endemic biodiversity—and a natural extension of the Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests within Mavrovo National Park. Its Tentative List includes caves, geological formations, archaeo-astronomical complexes, and historic churches.
