Peru ratified the UNESCO World Heritage Convention on 24 February 1982. Its List contains cultural, natural, and mixed sites. Cultural themes center on Inca and pre‑Inca archaeological sites (Machu Picchu, Chan Chan). Natural themes include the Andes biodiversity in Huascarán and Manu Parks.
Nomination Pipeline: Peru has submitted 2 Preliminary Assessments ( Santa Bárbara Mining Complex and Real Felipe Fortress of Callao), which become eligible for nomination in 2027 and 2028. It has no other expected nominations for the upcoming years.
WH Travel Itineraries: A basic itinerary around the best-known of its WHS will take 3 weeks, a comprehensive one 6 weeks; examples based on public transport and self-drive are available at the Forum. Fly between the hubs. Be mindful of the altitudes you will be travelling in.
