City of "La Guaira"
The City of “La Guaira” is a colonial city that has served as the main port for Caracas and all of Venezuela since the end of the 16th century. The city center consists of low-rise and traditional buildings from the 17th through 19th centuries organized around patios or internal gardens. Remnants of the heavy fortifications that once surrounded the city can be seen within the city and along the Camino de los Españoles, the road connecting La Guaira with the capital of Caracas.
