La chefferie de Bafut
The Bahut chiefdom is an ensemble of about 50 bungalows, that comprises a palace, a sacred forest, a guest residence, places of worship, two women’s quarters and secret society lodges. In the centre of this ensemble a sanctuary (“Achum”) is situated. It is the most important religious and architectural element of the site and is one of the oldest examples of traditional architecture in Cameroon. Even though the site is mainly a reconstruction, the claims of OUV are its architectural value, as one the best preserved in the Grassfields region, and its representation of the tradition of the Bafut people and of the culture of the region.
