The archaeological site of Shum Laka is a rock shelter located at an altitude of 1,500 m. It is the only site in Central Africa with a continuous human occupation from the Stone Age to the Metal Age. The first traces of human activity date back to at least 30,000 BP. Various types of funeral practices have been identified. 18 skeletons found there date from 3 to 8,000 BP.
