The Moulendé fossil site and the Bangombé nuclear pile are discoveries in the shales in the Franceville basin. Moulendé has yielded fossilized organisms from 2,1 billion years ago, said to be evidence of the earliest form of multicellular life. Bangombé is the only known natural nuclear reactor in the world, also approximately 2 billion years old.
