St. George Fortified System
St. George Fortified System comprises the early 18th century defense system on the hills around Grenada’s capital St. George’s. Its eight forts were designed to mitigate internal Amerindian attacks and slave uprisings, as well as external European rival invasions. Three major forts have been restored and remain til today: Fort George, Fort Frederick and Fort Matthew.
