Sud-Ouest Malgache, Pays Mahafaly

WHS Score 0.0 Votes 0
Sud-Ouest Malgache, Pays Mahafaly is a harsh sub-desert region with a strange vegetation landscape adapted to drought and heat that is not found anywhere else in the world. The inhabitants of this region (particularly the Mahafaly) have taken advantage of this hostile and thorny vegetation to defend their villages with impassable belts of thorny trees. A traditional form of funerary art characteristic of Madagascar can also be found in this setting.
