The poplar trees in the vicinity of the Tarim River are the oldest poplar trees in the world. The poplar forest contains a significant species and gene pool of the temperature desert zone, are important for maintaining the ecological equilibrium of the Tarim River, and stands are an ecological barrier against dust storms.
